Your inspector needs to identify each window and exterior door, verify how it is installed and anchored, and see the flashing and weatherproofing before those details are covered.
Start with a wide photo of each opening so we know where it is. Then move closer to show the product information, anchors, flashing and installation details.
Different products, opening sizes, substrates and systems can have different fastening and installation requirements. Follow the approved plans and the applicable manufacturer or approved product installation details for the specific window or door at each opening.
Window openings should have the required sill flashing, sill tape or approved sill-protection system before those conditions are concealed. Make sure the inspector can clearly see the sill and both lower corners.
Include clear photos with a measuring tape next to the fasteners, anchors, bearing area or other dimension being verified.
Start with a wide view of each opening so the inspector can identify where the product is installed.
Make sure we can see:
Show the full opening first. Then take the close-up installation photos.
Take clear photos of available labels, markings or product information so the inspector can identify what was installed.
Make sure we can read, where available:
Include the applicable approved product or installation documentation with the inspection where required.
For window openings, show the sill flashing, sill tape or other approved sill-protection system before it gets covered.
Make sure we can see:
Take one wider photo of the complete opening, then clear close-ups of the sill and both lower corners.
If an overlap or flashing dimension needs to be verified, include a measuring-tape photo.
Show the fasteners or anchors attaching the window or door frame to the structure.
Follow the applicable manufacturer or approved product installation requirements for fastener type, location and spacing.
Make sure we can see:
Where fastener spacing needs to be verified, place a measuring tape next to the fasteners and take a clear photo.
If the approved installation detail requires fasteners in every designated fastening hole or location, make sure each required location has the specified fastener.
Show enough surrounding construction for the inspector to identify the substrate or support receiving the fasteners.
This may include:
If bucks are used, make sure the inspector can see the buck and its relationship to the opening and window or door frame.
Show how the window or door installation ties into the surrounding weather barrier system.
Make sure we can see:
Use the flashing tape or sealing materials required by the applicable approved system. If an overlap needs to be verified, include a measuring-tape photo.
If multiple windows or doors are joined together, or the opening uses a mullion or other special assembly, show those connections separately.
Make sure we can see:
If anchor or fastener spacing needs to be verified, include a measuring-tape photo.
If one window, door or opening is different from the rest, make sure your inspector can see it clearly.
Take 30 seconds and make sure your inspector can identify each window or door and clearly see how it was installed.
Submit your photos, videos, measurement photos and applicable product documentation through Permit Rockstar. Your inspector will compare the installation with the approved plans and applicable manufacturer or product installation requirements.
