Pool Final Inspection Guide
Show the completed pool, required safety features and equipment, and demonstrate that the applicable pool systems are operating properly.

Start with a walkthrough of the complete pool area, then demonstrate the safety features, equipment and operating systems that apply to your project.
Pool projects vary. If your project does not include a particular heater, spa, automation system, waterfall, special lighting, alarm or other item listed below, simply skip that section. Show the equipment and features that are actually part of your permitted scope.
Make sure the required barriers, gates, alarms and other safety features for your project are fully installed and ready to demonstrate.
Gas-fired equipment, electrical equipment, circuits, bonding, plumbing, mechanical equipment or other trade-specific work may require separate Gas, Electrical, Plumbing or Mechanical inspections depending on your permitted scope. The Pool Final does not replace any separately required trade inspection. Follow the inspections required for your permit.
Show us the entire finished pool area.
Start with a slow walkthrough so the inspector can understand the complete finished condition.
Show whichever applies:
- The complete pool
- Pool deck or surrounding walking surfaces
- Attached spa
- Steps, benches and shelves
- Equipment area
- Pool barriers, fencing and gates
- Other completed pool features
Show us the barriers and gates.
Show the pool barrier system and demonstrate the applicable gate safety features.
Make sure we can see:
- Fencing or other required barriers
- Gates providing access to the pool area
- Gate hardware
- Latch location
- Other barrier conditions included in the project
Where a gate is required to self-close or self-latch, open the gate and show it returning to the closed and latched position.
Show us the safety alarms and devices working.
Demonstrate the applicable pool safety alarms or other protective devices included in the permitted installation.
This may include:
- Door alarms
- Window alarms
- Pool alarms
- Safety covers or other approved safety systems
- Other required safety devices
Show the device first, then demonstrate that it activates or operates as intended where practical.
Show us the pool equipment included in this inspection.
Show the completed pool equipment that is part of the Pool Final inspection and enough surrounding area for the inspector to understand the equipment layout.
Show whichever applies:
- Pump
- Filter
- Valves
- Sanitation equipment
- Automation equipment
- Controls
- Heater, where applicable to this inspection
- Other pool equipment
- Readable equipment labels or nameplates
Some equipment may also require a separate Gas, Electrical, Plumbing or Mechanical inspection. Showing the equipment here does not replace any separately required trade inspection.
Turn the applicable pool equipment on.
Demonstrate that the circulation system and other pool equipment included in the Pool Final are operating.
For the video:
- Show the equipment before turning it on
- Start the system
- Show the pump operating
- Show the filtration or circulation system operating
- Show applicable equipment controls
Let the system operate long enough for the inspector to see that it is running.
Show us the water circulating.
With the equipment running, show representative points around the pool so the inspector can see the circulation system operating.
This may include:
- Pool returns
- Skimmer operation
- Water movement around the pool
- Spa circulation, where applicable
- Other circulation features included in the project
Show us drains, covers and pool fittings.
Show the visible finished pool components installed in the shell.
Show whichever applies:
- Main drain covers
- Skimmers
- Returns
- Suction fittings
- Pool light fixtures
- Other visible fittings or components
Show us the pool lights working.
Turn on the pool or spa lighting included in the project and show that the lights operate.
Make sure we can see:
- The pool or spa light location
- The applicable switch or control
- The light operating
- Special lighting controls, where applicable
Pool lighting and associated electrical work may also be subject to a separately required Electrical inspection.
Show us the special pool features working.
Operate the additional pool or spa systems that are included in the Pool Final scope.
This may include:
- Spa jets
- Waterfalls
- Deck jets
- Fountains or water features
- Automatic fill systems
- Automation or control systems
- Other special pool equipment
If a pool or spa heater is included in the Pool Final scope, show its applicable operation after any separately required Gas, Electrical, Plumbing or Mechanical inspection has been completed.
Show us the access and safety hardware.
Show the applicable pool access hardware and its completed installation.
This may include:
- Handrails
- Ladders
- Grab rails
- Steps or entry systems
- Other pool access hardware
Show the complete item and its attachment or mounting condition.
Show us the applicable electrical safety components.
Show the completed pool-related electrical safety components that are visible and included in the Pool Final inspection.
This may include:
- Pool equipment disconnects
- GFCI-protected pool-related receptacles or equipment
- Visible bonding components
- Equipment grounding or bonding connections that remain accessible
- Other applicable electrical safety devices
Where applicable, demonstrate representative operation of accessible safety devices without removing covers, exposing energized parts or creating an electrical hazard.
Electrical work may require a separate Electrical inspection. This Pool Final guide does not replace that inspection.
Show us anything different or unusual.
If your pool has a feature or condition that is different from the typical installation, make sure the inspector can see it clearly.
This may include:
- Special safety systems
- Unusual barrier conditions
- Special equipment
- Attached spas
- Water features
- Automation systems
- Field modifications
- Anything else included in your project that the inspector should see
Before You Submit
Only check the items that apply to your permitted pool scope.
- Did you show the entire completed pool area?
- Did you show the applicable pool barriers and fencing?
- If gates are required, did you demonstrate the applicable self-closing and self-latching operation?
- If alarms or other safety devices apply, did you demonstrate that they work?
- Did you show the pool equipment included in this inspection and available equipment labels?
- Did you turn on the applicable pool equipment?
- Did you show the circulation system operating?
- Did you show the applicable drains, covers and pool fittings?
- If pool lights apply, did you show them operating?
- If special pool or spa features apply, did you demonstrate their operation?
- If handrails, ladders or access hardware apply, did you show them?
- Did you show applicable pool-related electrical safety components included in this inspection?
- Did you show anything different or unusual?
- Have any separately required Gas, Electrical, Plumbing or Mechanical inspections been addressed as required by your permit?

Submit the photos and videos for the pool safety features, equipment and operating systems that apply to your Pool Final through Permit Rockstar. Your inspector will review the completed pool installation against the approved plans and applicable project requirements.
