Plumbing Final Inspection Guide
Show the finished plumbing that is part of your project and demonstrate that the applicable fixtures and equipment are operating properly.

Not every project has the same fixtures or equipment. Follow only the sections below that apply to the permitted plumbing scope on your project.
If your project does not include a sink, toilet, tub, shower, water heater, laundry connection, exterior fixture or another item listed below, simply skip that section. Show the plumbing that is actually part of your project.
This lets the inspector see fixture operation, drainage, the P-trap, shutoff valves and visible connections without making the process unnecessarily complicated.
Show us the finished plumbing included in your project.
Start with a slow walkthrough of the areas included in the plumbing final.
Show whichever applies:
- Kitchens
- Bathrooms
- Laundry or utility areas
- Water-heating equipment
- Exterior plumbing fixtures
- Special plumbing fixtures or equipment
Run the water.
Turn on representative sinks and lavatories included in your project.
Show:
- Water flowing from the faucet
- Hot and cold operation, where applicable
- The basin filling and draining
- Water draining without obvious backup
Let the water run long enough for the inspector to see that the fixture is operating and draining.
Show us underneath.
Open the cabinet or access area and show the visible plumbing below the applicable sink or lavatory.
Make sure we can see:
- P-trap
- Drain connection
- Hot-water shutoff valve, where applicable
- Cold-water shutoff valve
- Supply connections
- Visible condition after water has been run
Flush the toilets.
Show the toilets included in your project and demonstrate that they operate.
For the video:
- Show the toilet location
- Flush the toilet
- Show the bowl clearing and refilling
- Show the area around the base
- Show the accessible shutoff valve
Run the tubs and showers.
Show the applicable tubs and showers operating and draining.
Make sure we can see:
- Water running
- Hot and cold operation, where applicable
- Shower head or tub spout operation
- Drainage
- Visible fixture condition
Run the fixture long enough for the inspector to see that the water is draining properly.
Show us the water-heating equipment.
If your permitted scope includes a water heater or other water-heating equipment, show the completed installation and visible plumbing connections.
Show whichever applies:
- Water heater or water-heating equipment
- Hot and cold connections
- Shutoff valve
- Relief valve and discharge piping
- Drain pan and drain connection, where applicable
- Equipment identification or label
- Other visible connections required by that installation
Show us any other plumbing fixtures or equipment.
Show the additional completed plumbing items that are part of your permitted scope.
This may include:
- Kitchen sink and disposal connections
- Dishwasher connections
- Washing-machine connections and drain
- Exterior hose bibbs
- Floor drains
- Utility sinks
- Special plumbing fixtures
- Other plumbing equipment
Where practical, operate the applicable fixture so the inspector can see that it functions and drains.
Show us anything different or unusual.
If a plumbing fixture, connection or condition is different from the typical installation, make sure your inspector can see it clearly.
- Special fixtures
- Unusual drain configurations
- Different water-heating systems
- Special pumps or equipment
- Accessible plumbing repairs or modifications
- Anything else included in your project that the inspector should see
Before You Submit
Only check the items that apply to your permitted plumbing scope.
- Did you show the finished plumbing that is actually part of your project?
- If you have sinks or lavatories, did you show water running and draining?
- If you have sinks or lavatories, did you show the P-traps and shutoff valves underneath?
- If you have toilets, did you flush them and show the accessible shutoff valves?
- If you have tubs or showers, did you show them operating and draining?
- If water-heating equipment is part of the project, did you show the equipment and visible connections?
- Did you show the other plumbing fixtures and equipment that apply to your project?
- After operating fixtures, did you show the visible connections and surrounding areas?
- Did you show anything different or unusual?

Submit the photos and videos for the plumbing fixtures and equipment that apply to your project through Permit Rockstar. Your inspector will review the completed installation and applicable operational testing against the approved project requirements.
